Rules & Restrictions

While Affordable Storage is incredibly flexible regarding what you can store, there are several items that are not permitted to be stored in the units. If you have any questions regarding what can and cannot be stored in the units please contact the onsite manager.

The most common restrictions include:

Inflammable or Combustible Materials

These types of materials will pose very real danger to the entire facility and personnel if stored within a unit, not to mention your own stored items if there is an accident. The list of restrictions includes gas, fuel, fireworks etc. Please empty all fuel tanks, even your lawnmower or other small machinery, before placing these items in self storage.

Animals or Animal Products

Storing pets or other animals in the units is not permitted. People have in the past attempted to ‘store’ their pets in self storage, as they believe they can access them for feeding and care as necessary. This is quite obviously cruel and could result in prosecution. Animal products are also not allowed in self storage as they will attract vermin.

Illegal or stolen goods

No reputable self storage provider will allow you to store illegal or stolen goods on their premises; the same holds true for Affordable Storage.

Firearms

Affordable Storage does allow for firearms to be stored in the units; however, you will have to secure your weapons with trigger locks or other similar security features. Ammunition of any kind is not permitted to be stored at Affordable Storage.

Fragrances

Affordable Storage does not permit the storage of fragrant items or anything that will cause a significant odor on site.

Aerosols

Aerosols or pressurized inflammable materials are not permitted to be stored at Affordable Storage. There is the possibility that these items could burst and cause accidents, this is especially true considering most aerosols are extremely flammable.

Hazardous Materials

Affordable Storage does not allow the storage of hazardous, toxic or chemical materials on site as these items can cause very real damage if they spill or if there is a fire.

Plants

Please do not store plants or any other living things in a self storage unit as they will attract insects and pests.

Food

Please do not store food in a self storage unit as it will attract insects, pests and vermin.

The list presented above is not all inclusive and is meant to be a general guide as to what types of items are not permitted.

Again, if you have any doubt as to whether or not the item you wish to store is permitted by Affordable Storage please contact the on site manager.

INSURANCE INFORMATION

Affordable Storage DOES NOT provide insurance for the goods that are stored within the facility. Affordable Storage’s insurance covers the facility itself and not the items contained within the rented storage units or on the property.

Affordable Storage strongly recommends that you contact your home insurer to see if the items you place in the facility will be covered by your domestic home contents policy. It may be that you are fully covered for goods stored away from home or you may be able to pay an additional small premium to get such coverage. This could well be cheaper than taking out a separate insurance policy. Again, Affordable Storage does not insure your individual belongings that are stored within a unit or on the property.

Affordable Storage does not require that you insure your belongs; however, we STRONGLY recommend you seek insurance on belongings stored within a unit or on the property; again, this coverage may already be provided by your current homeowners policy or may be available from your current homeowners insurance provider for a small fee. Affordable Storage has taken measures to protect your belongings; however if a fire, flood, theft or any other such negative consequence should occur to your belongings the cost of replacing/repairing any belongings stored in a unit or on the property is born by you and/or the insurance coverage you have put in place.

A key point to remember is that your insurance needs will change if you add to or remove items from self storage. Check with your insurance provider before taking out a policy and make sure that the policy can be changed over time as your requirements change.
